Vincentian Prayer House, Kisumu
The Vincentian prayer house Kisumu was started as a spiritual hub for evangelization of the word of God by the congregation of St Vincent De Paul, a clerical society of the Catholic Church. This is a place open to all irrespective of one’s faith, a Prayer center for worship and counseling. The main purpose of the centre is evangelization, it was the answer for the great need and plea of the people of Western to have a place in the region since travelling to Nairobi City to attend the retreats was costly.
History/Background
The then Arch-Bishop of the region His Grace Most Rev Zacchaeus Okoth invited the Vincentian priests through the vicar general Rev.Fr Moses to the diocese of Kisumu and the western region by giving us the opportunity to conduct parish renewal retreats at St Joseph Milimani and St Theresa Kibuye Cathedral in 2015 which was led by Rev Fr. Anthony Parankimalil. There after the Arch-bishop officially invited the Vincentian priests to the diocese by offering us a plot at Bouye Kisumu. On 28thMay 2015 The Archbishop Most Rev Zaccheus Okoth, together with the Vincentian team officially opened the ground including The Provincial Superior Rev Fr. Paul Puthuva, The Provincial Councilor Rev Fr. Alex Chalangady, the Sacred Heart Regional Superior Rev Fr. Biju Valliparambil and Rev Fr. Geejo Paattah along with The Vincentian Priests from Uganda. As a traditional sign of welcoming guests, the Priests were offered a traditional seat and a small ceremony was done as a thanksgiving from the large crowd of the people of western region who attended the inauguration. The ceremony ended with celebration of the Holy mass by the Archbishop. The center started officially in 2015 August by the Vincentian priest residing in Kisumu namely Rev Fr Joseph Marottiparambil as the founding director together with Deacon Thomas who is now a priest and Bro.George. They were later joined by Rev Fr.Benoy, Rev Fr.Thomas Reno and Rev Fr Mathew as assistant director.
